hi everyone. i started a blog. yey! sorry this took a lot of looking stuff up.
Welcome new members Julie, Yamil, Doug's Cousin & Pete Galli!
- the opening video is same from oceanic commerical from last week
- don't hold your breath- reference to charlie?
- keep dreaming
- there was a wallet in the bottom of the ocean with an identification- what was it?
- an electrical storm brought them down- that always happens - things go down (the song charlie keyed in was good vibrations)
- sawyer calls lock colonel kurtz
Kurtz belongs to a series of Romantic heroes whose suppressed or sublimated desires lead them to a fractured psyche. Victor Frankenstein in Frankenstein, and Prometheus in Prometheus Unbound, as well as the central figure of Edgar Allan Poe's "William Wilson," all ended up displacing their evil into other creatures. Besides these, the character of Kurtz does not resist a Nietzschean interpretation, being a sort of "Overman" whose fractured persona resembles a kind of Dionysian genius, fully aware of his desire for power and utter solitude.
Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 film Apocalypse Now features a character named "Kurtz", who was based on Conrad's character. The cast of Apocalypse Now was instructed by Coppola to read Heart of Darkness.
Timothy Findley's 1993 novel Headhunter features Kurtz's escape from Heart of Darkness and subsequent reign of terror over the city of Toronto as the psychiatrist-in-chief at the Parkin Institute.
- is miles featured in a past episode as someone's friend? hurley's? cop? he kinda looks like dr. marvin candle! (fyi the name miles means soldier/pilgrim leader)
- sawyer called ben yoda- he is the WISE ONE! there are always star wars references. in a galaxy far far away. we keep hearing he's the good one.
- tunisia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunisia
- polar bear in the desert, goes back to polar bar/walt saw the polar bear. last week hurley was drawing an igloo.
- scorpio in dharma logo. a scorpio has 6 legs, 6 is a number.
- 888-548-0034- i called it. it's basically a hotline for families. it said it din't have any updated info, gave their apologies to family members who lost someone in the flight and they have daily briefings and investigations regarding the flight. they also said to check back formore info.
- seth norris, the pilotIn a deleted flashback scene (depicted in extras on Disc 7 of Season 1 DVD collection), Seth had a conversation with Claire at the airport restaurant before the flight. He promised her a "smooth ride". During the same extra, he stated that his mother's boyfriend was named Bernard. This being a deleted scene, it may not necessarily be canon.
In the making of the pilot episode, it is revealed that the pilot was added in later into production as Jack had originally been planned to be killed off in "Pilot". The pilot's body that was found hanging in the tree was also originally intended to be Jack's.
He was the first crash survivor to be killed by the "Monster" and it took until Day 72 when the "Monster" found its second victim, Eko.
- interesting. locke asked about the monster.seth was killed by the monster and was referenced in this episode. also, when frank lapidus landed the hellicopter he said it was a smooth ride as well. also, he said he always wore a wedding ring. is dharma putting substitues on the plane?
- cow - frank saw one when he woke up. not sure what to make except there are always weird animals on the island.
- sawyer calls locke taller ghost wallet? i replayed this several times and still cant' quite understand but google it and i got a link for beliefs on ghosts spirits and witches about putting money in a wallet.
- locke kept calling sawyer james-
james is derived from the same Hebrew name as Jacob, meaning "grasps by the heel" (in the Genesis narrative, Jacob was born grasping Esau's heel and later bought his birthright). The Epistle of James is a book in the Christian New Testament. The author identifies himself as "James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ", traditionally understood as James the Just, the brother of Jesus (see Authorship and Composition).
Framed within an overall theme of patient perseverance during trials and temptations, the text condemns various sins and calls on Christians to be patient while awaiting the imminent Second Coming.
- dharma put fake people on the flight that worked for them internally. the older pilot guy said no- that's not the guy that flew the plane bc he said he always wore a wedding ring.
i looked up all the mraning of the names:
Ben Linus- Linus (in Greek, Linos) may refer to any of three sons of Apollo from Greek mythology:
Son of Apollo and Urania, he was killed by Apollo during a contest.
Son of Apollo and Psamathe, whose father was the King of Argos. She feared her father and gave the infant Linus to shepherds to raise. He was torn apart by dogs after reaching adulthood and Psamathe was killed by her father, for which Apollo sent a child-killing plague to Argos.
Son of Apollo and Terpsichore, he taught music to Orpheus and Heracles. Heracles killed him with Linus's own lyre after he reprimanded Heracles for making errors. According to other sources, he was the son of the muse Kalliope and the inventor of melody and rhythm. [1]
Other sources have Linus as the son of the muse Urania and Amphimarus (a son of Poseidon). He was killed by Apollo because he rivalled the god in his musical skill.
Charlotte Staples lewis Charlotte Staples Lewis is a reference to the British writer and scholar, Clive Staples Lewis. Lewis is most famous for his works in medieval literature, Christian apologetics, and literay criticism. Both C.S. Lewises attended Oxford University.
Miles Straume The name 'Miles Straume' is a play on the word "maelstrom", which means a powerful whirlpool or a swirling mass of water
Frank Lapidus- name origin- There's a Rick Lapidus in the Exposé script
The name is an anagram for "Farads link up." The Farad is a unit of electrical capacitance, named after physicist Michael Faraday.
A physician named Lapidus developed a technique for treating a condition of the big toe (bunions) caused by excessive bone growth.
THE BIG TOE STATUE!!!!
Daniel Faraday-name origin- Michael Faraday (September 22, 1791 – August 25, 1867) was an English physicist who researched electromagnetism. Michael Faraday's discoveries led to the development of Faraday cages, an enclosure used to block outside radio and electromagnetic waves. James Clerk Maxwell took the work of Faraday, and others, and consolidated it with a set of equations that form the basis of modern theories of electromagnetic phenomena.
THE ELECTRO CURRENTS THEY COULDN'T GET THRU!

Did Ben know Charlotte had a vest on or did he really want to kill her? If he has someone on the ship, wouldn't he know she had a vest too? If so, then was the purpose to expose her or put her on notice that he knows exactly who she is. A shot across the bow, if you will.

That is fricken awesome.
If Ben knew exactly who was on the ship, why didn't he call out Naomi in the same manner as Charlotte?

I'm down with the Roppo's theories!
With that in mind...I'm thinking Ben is in cahoots with one or more of the 4 (I'm calling them "Heli's" cause they came from the helicoptor)...I think its very convenient that Miles was just laying there on the rocks waiting for them to find him so he could pull a gun on them and Charlotte just happens to land where the bulk of the cast happens to be on the island at that time...I think its basically a western style round-up without the survivors knowing they were being rounded up.
And...could Ben have planted a seed with Locke about Naomi so Locke would kill her without Ben having to? If Ben is the enemy of Naomi's boss (Abadon..I know...wrong spelling) then this would be a war with the survivors in the middle.
Just a thought....

So along those lines, then the one he could be in cahoots with is most likely Charlotte. That would be why he shot her (in the vest)..to make sure no one would suspect she is the mole but still make the survivors wary of the the Helis. Notice how Charlotte commented about the baby too..did you have it on the island? Could be a clue that she is interested in the same thing Ben is...solving the pregnancy problem.
And in keeping with "everybody is connected" theory, in the flashback of the Heli Miles, he tells the grandmother that a friend in the police dept. told him about her grandson. They are in Inglewood, CA - could that be the same police dept. as Ana Lucia?
Isn't Miles the same actor on the Sopranos who was with Uncle Junior in the mental hospital on the last season of the Soprano's? Also Eyewitness News is AWESOME for breaking the Pedro Martinez cockfighting vid!!!
Another Star Wars reference....Medenine, Tunisia was a filming location for Star Wars Episode I.
LOVE the star wars reference!
If walt is a teenager already, any chance time passes on the island a lot different than in the real world? Maybe it slows up or almost freezes? The flash forwards may be because time halts on the island?
Great write up. Check this site out too...great compliment to Schlost!
