Episode 6-316

First.. welcome Tracey (sn: sonovabitch) who gets the medal for watching all five seasons in record time (as far as i know!) She started Jan 1 and ended Feb. 15. Congrats & welcome to SCHLOST my friend!

AMAZING episode.. cannot wait til next week!

- is jack wearing same suit as when the plane crashed? producers said it all goes back to the pilot.

-kate says are we back.. jack says i'm back.

- the pendulum.. how thrilling, which is The Lamppost. The Lamppost from Chronicles of Narnia (thanks Eric!) written by CS Lewis - charlotte.. also I think the lamppost is one of the dharma symbols. Also references the lantern that was destroyed in Jacob's cabin which Ben later hangs up (after it was destroyed) as working and Christian uses when talking to Locke.

The Lamp-post is a major landmark in the country of Narnia, located in the northern unpopulated area, which was named Lantern Waste after it. It is a London streetlamp standing in the middle of the forest, which shines day and night. It was at the lamp-post that Lucy Pevensie first met Mr. Tumnus.

The Lamp-post originated in the first few days of Narnia's creation, from a bar of iron which Queen Jadis had torn from a London lamppost and thrown at Aslan. Aslan at the time was creating the living things of Narnia by his song, which made the ground of Narnia magically fertile and gave birth to the animals and plants of the world. The iron bar fell to the ground and, under the influence of Aslan's song, gave birth to a new lamppost, which grew from a few feet high to a full sized streetlight in a few hours.

The Lamp-post's ability to burn continuously without fuel (London streetlamps run on gas) may be due to the fact that, although made of iron, it is an organic living thing, not a manufactured artifact as other streetlamps are. The Lamp-post in the movie (see picture) seems to have 'roots'.

- Ben didn't look in the eye when he said he had never seen the lamppost before. Jack asked if he was lying.. Kate said usually people lie when they can't look in some one's eyes but Jack does the opposite.

- Water= rebirth-baptism- reentry into island

- Desmond says whatever Hawking tells you.. ignore it (do the opposite like sayid told hurley about Ben)

- Think there is going to be a jack vs locke struggle. locke always trusted ben, jack is now trusting ben.. he was the man of science but it slowly becoming man of faith. everything jack did in the episode was a test of faith (putting the shoes on locke). Locke had to kill himself as a sacrifice to the island (faith). Once they do their good deed on the island they redeem themselves- and move onto the next level of spirituality, eternal youth (ana lucia, libby, chaly, boone, ecko, claire, shannon). Ben also told Jack he had to take a leap of faith. And Jack tells Locke the things he is doing are crazier than him.

-interesting way locke killed himself- by hanging.. to hang yourself you have to use your legs. can he walk off the island?

- jack had to get something that belonged to his father. he got the shoes. he mentioned white tennis shoes which Christian was wearing in the pilot episode

- was Ben praying for forgiveness of what he may do to Penny?

- Thomas the Apostle.. when Jesus wanted to return to Judea knowing he would be murdered there, the others said let us also go so that we might die with him. He refused to acknowledge Jesus' resurrection. (statue that was shown in front of the church last week). Thomas needed to touch Jesus' wounds to be convinced and of course he was. We are all convinced sooner or later. Jack is Thomas, Locke is Jesus. This also references many other Thomas' on the show:
In Greek, the name Thomas means "Twin." The name, or variations of it, appears frequently in Lost. Including Claire's babydaddy, there are: - Ben said he had a loose end that needed tying up. Does he know Jack will give Locke a pair of shoes? Jack made a big deal of tying the shoes on Locke.

- There was a blue shadow on jack's face- who was in the background? libby? i tried to re-watch and it looks like the chick from the movied Sideways.

- Loved the rabbit Ray a had.

- Ray aka Granddad said in response to Jack's ready to go- the sooner the better. Where i go is somewhat better than here. Where I go they can't find me. What would I do without my magic shows? And Jack says he's going away for a while.. somewhere better than here. Ray says "touche" Is Ray Jacob?

In the casting call, Ray was named "Hal", and described as "70s, Caucasian. Successful, handsome and charming rogue with a twinkle in his eye. A guy who can still fight the establishment and win."

- What happened to Aaron? I bet Claire came back as a ghost and told Kate not to take him to the island. So she gave him to Claire's mom.

- Who flies to guam? Guam is like the end of the earth (ps forests on guam are called boonies!) On ajira airway's site if you try to book a flight it automatically sends you to Guam and if you print the boarding pass it says "Landless". Also the symbol of ajira airways is a tiger- the years of the tiger are 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010. thinking they land in one of those years? but then we see Jin as a Dharma guy. the Purge happened in 1992 and Rousseau lands in 1988. I think he's going undercover as a Dharma to protect himself. maybe he's in1974? Also the Grateful Dead are playing in the van (Locke is the Grateful Dead).

- who was the airline guy- one of sayid's frieds from the past.

- Hurley was reading Y the Last Man by brian k vaughn which is about the only man to survive the mysterious simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. The virus kills everyone that has a Y chromosome including embryos, fertilized eggs, and even sperm. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y_The_Last_Man

- 78 seats 7 + 8 = 15. 23C was Jack's seat on the pilot episode .. tonight it was 8A.

- hurley was late for the plane.. and now ben was.

- Hurley did not want to go back to the island. and why did he have a guitar? I think Charlie told him to go back and bring one of his guitars with him. Charlie or Abbingdon.

- Sayid also did not want to go back to the island.. but was forced to as he was cuffed (like kate was to the marshal) to that woman (who looked like ana lucia's mom). We see next week this woman is talking to locke- perhaps he approached her? he was forced into it, maybe by the work he is doing for ben.

- Ben reading Ulysses (he has black eyes). Jack asked how can you read and he said my mother taught me. his mother died in childbirth! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulysses_(novel)

- Lapidus was supposed to fly Oceanic Flight 815.

- Did Charles Widmore beat up Ben? Did he harm Penny? Ben said "you changed all the rules". Or did Desmond beat up Penny to protect her from him? Did he kill Penny and Desmond will go back to the island to seek revenge on him?

- also people claim to have seen Shannon's ghost with Jin in the dharma van. i watched it a few times frame by frame and didn't see anything.

- John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

ok. that's it for now.. enjoy!

Doug O's bro says:

In an earlier episode when jack found his dads coffin on the island his dad was not in it.... Was he doing the same thing that john locke is?

Hurley heard about the flight from caly... That's why he had a guitar with him

Ben got sayid arrested, that's why sayid was on the plane

So when jin was with rosseau and he ran off the 2nd time he then met up with sawyer and the others. Was he in the same time with them the whole time or were they in 2 different times? Why are they the only ones traveling in time? If the island was traveling in time then everything would stay the same... The rest of the world off the island would be different.

One thing, Brian K. Vaughn who wrote Y the Last Man is also one of the writers of Lost.

Although, I don't think he wrote this episode.

Another theory- Sawyer and Claire are related. He acts like a big protective brother in season 4. Man who Sawyer seeked revenge on was really probably Christian. He didn't know when they were having beers it was the man who in turn is his father who killed his family. Jack is not supposed to raise Aaron, Sawyer is. He's another uncle.

Coincidentally, the number of passengers on Flight 815, subtracting those who survived and at one point escaped the Island (Jack, Kate, Sayid, Sun, Hurley, Locke, Michael, and Walt) is 324 - 8 = 316.

In a sense, this episode concludes the story of the Oceanic Six's escape from the Island, which began in "Catch-22" with Naomi's arrival. The previous episode was "One of Us", episode 3x16.

The DHARMA logo on Jin's jumpsuit is mostly obscured by his collar, but appears to be a five-pointed sheriff's star.

This episode was originally intended to be the seventh of the season, but later it was decided to switch the airing order with "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham". This is only the third time in the show's history that the order of episodes has been switched, the first being in Season One, and the second being "The Glass Ballerina" and "Further Instructions". (Information from the Official Podcast)

Jin, Sayid and Locke appear with no lines.

Ulysses: Ben is seen reading Ulysses by James Joyce on Flight 316 before he leaves his seat. The novel is a story about the journey through Dublin on a single day (June 16, 1904) by its main character, Leopold Bloom. Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse told viewers to read this book on one of the Dharma Special Access videos. A quote from page 316 of the novel is also hidden in the source code of the Ajira Airways website. The final chapter is named "Penelope". (Books)

The Bible: John 3:16 -- John Locke on Flight 316 is bringing everyone back. This ties in to his suicide note that Jack should have believed in him. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." This verse is also hidden in the source code of the Ajira Airways website.

Jack has a drink in the bar at LAX, where his father met Ana Lucia three years prior.

In regards to Christian's shoes, Kate asks Jack why he would "hold on to something that [made him] feel sad?" Kate held on to her toy airplane for years, even though it reminded her of Tom Brennan's death. ("Whatever the Case May Be") I THINK THIS IS CLAIRE’S TOM!!

Didn't Chaly tell Brutha that he was like a champion swimmer.....and didn't they show a flashback episode where you saw Chaly as a kid child being taught by his dad to swim!?!?!?!?!?

Lookie what i found for S1"White Rabbit" on lostpedia: (so why did Chaly tell Jack he COULDN"T swim!!!- and BTW- i am drawing these conclusions myself! I found this clue not some douchie on a message board- hee!

Jack is woken by Charlie in a state of panic, and the two rush to the shore amidst a crowd of survivors. The screams of a young woman are heard from out in the ocean. Charlie says, "I don't swim," so Jack dives in and swims to save her. However, Jack finds Boone in need of assistance (he had also tried to save the woman) and pulls him back to the beach. Looking back, the group realizes it is now too late for Jack to go after the woman, and all they can do is stand there as her screams die out.

also- ""Strawberry Fields Forever": A line from this song by The Beatles, "Living is Easy with Eyes Closed", is tattooed on Charlie's arm.

have a theory: lapidus is charlotte's father. in commentary, producers keep talking about her blue eyes and who's eyes are bluer hers or jeff fahey (guy who plays lapidus). her mom married an american man. he was also supposed to fly oceanic 815 but is now fling ajira 316- to save charlotte. also producers talk about her hair. who had red hair- locke's mom & grandmother perhaps she's related to locke (who also has blue eyes) and maybe lapidus and locke are related. after all, everyone is on lost!

have another theory- think sawyer is going to die. he's wearing a red shirt, is shoeless & producers were commenting on his & kate's teeth during the scene where he whispers to kate before he jumps out of the plane. how do you identify the dead - dental records.

a few other things- producers mentioned "red robin" during the locke funeral. red robin is an anagram for 'i reborn'. it's also batman's old side kick who died and recently came back to life due to someone messing with the space time continium.
